Andrew Bowie is Professor of Philosophy and German at the School of Modern Languages, Royal Holloway, University of London.
Andrew Bowies research concentrates on the tradition of modern German philosophy from the later eighteenth century to the present. His aim is not just to interpret the key ideas of the major philosophers, both familiar, like Kant, Hegel, Nietzsche, and Heidegger, and less familiar, like Schlegel, Schleiermacher, and Schelling, but to show their importance for debates in contemporary philosophy and in other areas of the arts and humanities.
A major theme of Bowies recent work has been the relationship between philosophy and music. A forthcoming research project is concerned with the idea of the ends of philosophy in relation to both analytical and European philosophy.
